The award is based on extensive research by Focus magazine using data from Statista. From around 2 million companies entered in the commercial register, 13,300 companies with significant sales or employee growth were filtered out. The 500 companies with the strongest growth were honoured as Germany's growth champions.
In the retail category (including mail order and e-commerce), IBO was ranked 10th and 81st overall.
